As summer reached its peak, Essex Swing Dance was thrilled to welcome the incredible Marvin Muoneké for a spectacular live band night in August. Known for his deep, velvety voice and impeccable musicianship, Marvin transformed The Bootmaker in Chelmsford into a jazz lover’s paradise.
Marvin, a talented jazz vocalist and trumpeter, has made waves in the UK jazz scene, appearing on The Voice UK and reaching the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent in 2018. His passion for classic swing and jazz shone through every note, captivating both seasoned dancers and those new to the world of swing.
The night was filled with high-energy performances of jazz standards and swing-era favourites, ensuring the dance floor was alive with movement and joy. From smooth slow ballads to fast-paced numbers, Marvin’s set had something for everyone. Dancers embraced the energy in the room, and the sense of community that Essex Swing Dance is known for was stronger than ever.
A highlight of the evening was Marvin’s extended performance. Feeding off the dancers’ enthusiasm, he graciously ran over time, delivering encore after encore. Even the staff behind the bar, who were scheduled to close, couldn’t help but shout for more, fully immersed in the infectious energy of the night.
For those who couldn’t attend, there’s exciting news on the horizon. Marvin Muoneké is set to perform with his 17-piece big band, “Big Marv’s Big Fat Band,” at Witham Public Hall on 30th March 2025. This event promises to be a grand celebration of swing and jazz, bringing the big band sound to Essex in a way that’s not to be missed. Tickets can be purchased here.
