On Sunday, 30th March 2025, Essex Swing Dance marked a major milestone – our first anniversary – with a truly unforgettable evening at Witham Public Hall. The night saw the spectacular debut of Big Marv’s Big Fat Band, an 18-piece swing orchestra led by the incredibly talented and charismatic Marvin Muoneké.
A Dream Realised: Marvin’s Big Band Vision
For Marvin, this performance wasn’t just another gig—it was the realisation of a lifelong dream. He shared with the crowd how he’d always aspired to bring together his own full-scale big band, capturing the golden-age swing sounds he loves so deeply. That dream came alive on our stage, and it was nothing short of magical!
A Packed Dance Floor and Unbeatable Energy
The evening kicked off with a welcoming Lindy hop taster class by at 6:30pm, giving both new and seasoned dancers a chance to warm up and connect. It was heart-warming to see experienced dancers supporting new dancers throughout the class and welcoming them to the world of swing dance. We left the taster on a high, ready to dance the night away with our trademark ESD enthusiasm just as the band took the stage.
One Year of Essex Swing Dance
We couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate one whole year of Essex Swing Dance. From our first ever class to now hosting live big band events, it’s been an incredible journey. A journey only made possible by the amazing people who come out to dance, learn, and support this growing community. Of course, there was cake… and our very own DJ Simon Michie set to keep the party going!
A Perfect Venue
Witham Public Hall, boasts a fantastic dance floor and a spacious stage, perfect for an unforgettable night with a full big band. The acoustics within the hall complemented the sound of the talented musicians, enhancing the atmosphere and filling every part of the hall and our souls with the music, (and definitely giving us all some goosebumps!). The hall is walking distance from Witham station with good transport links to London and surrounding areas as well as a public car park opposite.
